Maria Horrocks & William Rowbotham

Maria Horrocks was the fifth child & second daughter of William Horrocks & Jane Hunter Photograph of Maria Rowbotham formerley Horrocks C: 1930 She was born about 1849 in Whashton, Richmond but the exact date is unknown at present due to not being able to locate her birth certificate.

On the 1st October 1874, Maria married William Rowbotham in the Parish Church of Droylsden in Manchester. William was the son of Henry and Harriet Rowbotham. He was born on 5th August 1851 at 82 Carruthers Street, Ancoats and at the time of their marriage, he was working as a wire drawer in Droylsden. Their wedding was witnessed by Maria's eldest brother John and his wife Sarah.

Maria and William had 4 children:

4. Minnie Rowbotham

William Henry Rowbotham was born at the family home of 2 Holt street Bradford Manchester. Annie Rowbotham was also born at the family home of 2 Holt street Bradford. Some time between 1878 and 1880 Maria and William Rowbotham had moved house just opposite to 7 Holt Street Bradford, it was at this address that their next child was born. Ada Rowbotham, but within five months of Ada's birth, the family was to move home again.

Ten years later the Rowbotham family was living on Cross street, Bradford, Manchester. Their fourth and final child Minnie, was born here just after christmas.

Sadly on the 8th September 1891 at 31 Cross Street, Bradford, Minnie Rowbotham died aged just 8 months old.

The 15th August 1899 saw another sad day for the Rowbotham family as the head of the family William Rowbotham passed away aged 48 years. William died at 20 James Street, Bradford, and the cause of William's death was bronchitis astheria Certified by W Whitman. William's only son William Henry registered his death on the 16th August and he was also present at his death. His occupation for over thirty years was a wire drawer. William joined his daughter Minnie in the family grave plot in Philips Park Cemetery on the 19th August.

Maria died on the 17th April 1937 at 103 Eccleshall Street Clayton. 103 Eccleshall Street was a small terrace house with Maria, Ada, Ernest and four of their children all living together around this time. Maria died aged 88yrs from senile myocarditis and her death was registered the same day by her only surviving child, Ada McCabe. Maria was reunited with her partner William and their three other children in Philips Park Cemetery on the 21st April 1937.
